Aneelam joined Duncan Lewis in October 2008 as a Head of the Minors Department that assists unaccompanied minors with their asylum applications and is currently based at the Shepherds Bush branch. She joined Duncan Lewis from a High Street Practice where she managed and developed the Immigration team.
Although her work is focused with vulnerable clients, she predominantly assists unaccompanied minors and engages in outreach work to provide legal assistance to asylum seekers and other vulnerable immigrants. She specialises in Immigration / Asylum Law since the date of her qualification
as a Solicitor in June 1999. She is qualified under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme as a Senior Caseworker and Supervisor, which allows her to specialise in Immigration and Nationality Law. This allows her to provide specialist legal help for publicly funded work under the firms LSC franchise and actively involved on the Fast Track rotas at both Harmondsworth and Yarls Wood Immigration Detention Centres. Aneelam works very closely with Slough Borough Council and runs advice surgeries in association with Refugee Council every Tuesdays for asylum clients that need immigration assistance.
Since September 2008, Aneelam has been able to complement our department by the fact that she is a Legal Services Commission [LSC] Peer Reviewer in Immigration. Peer review is one of the audit tools used by the LSC to monitor supplier performance and they are carried out by a practitioner who is experienced and skilled in that area. Peer Review is a form of contract audit based on a review of a sample of a supplier's case files in a category of law, undertaken by an experienced practitioner who is trained in the peer review framework. Peer review is about raising the bar on quality and directly measures the quality of advice and enable organisations to target their efforts in managing legal competence, ensuring clients receive a high standard of legal advice.
Aneelam speaks Punjabi fluently.
