Maryam graduated from Bournemouth University in 2006 with an LLB (Hons) degree in Law and Taxation. She went on to do her LPC at BPP Law School in London and completed this in 2007. At the same time of doing her LPC, Maryam has also gained experience as an Outdoor Clerk for Donald Galbraith Solicitor who specialise in the Family Law field. Maryam has attended County Courts in cases of domestic violence, molestations orders and ancillary relief.

Thereafter, Maryam has worked as a Caseworker for Crescent where she worked mainly in the Prison and Crime Department. She has been involved in many cases of interest and has over the year been representing prisoners facing adjudications, recategorisation, licence recall, parole board and has dealt with lifers. Whilst working at Crescent , Maryam was also involved in the famous case of John Worboys, famously known as the Taxi Driver rapist.

Maryam wanted to experience other areas of law and coming from an ethnic minority; has a fascination of immigration law. Maryam has joined the Immigration Department at Duncan Lewis and she is working to be accredited under Level 1 of the Law Society Immigration Accreditation Scheme. Maryam’s intentions is to one day be a qualified solicitor and to be able to assist people from a poorer background.

Maryam is from Somalia and can fluently speak Bravanese as well as having a very strong understanding of Somali, Swahili and Hindi. Outside of the profession, Maryam enjoys reading, babysitting and swimming. She always looks for ways to advance her community and is involved in teaching SATs, GCSEs and A’Levels.
