Duncan Lewis, Family Solicitors, Bedfordshire launches new-look domestic abuse support website

Bedford Borough Council has launched a new-look domestic violence website, with a more user-friendly interface.

The Bedfordshire Domestic Abuse Partnership’s website was launched on International Women’s Day and the council says the new website is far more interactive, for both the public and professionals who will access it.

The website is quicker to use for those who wish to find support services and information and still offers a “hide my visit” button to ensure confidentiality.

In the last six months, Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire’s joint website has seen a 1296% increase in visits, with 3,211 visitors between I September 2016 and 28 February 2017, compared with 230 visitors in the same period for the previous year.

A total of 75% of visitors (3,211 visitors) were new visitors to the site, with the most visited page being “where to get help”.

Portfolio Holder for Community Safety and Regulatory Services, Councillor Colleen Atkins, said:

“With an increase in people seeking help, we want to build on this success and have even more local people visit the website.

“The information it provides can help give the confidence to take the first steps in gaining control of the situation, so that individuals can free themselves from any pain and suffering.

“Anyone can experience domestic abuse – if you’re worried about your own relationship, or frightened of someone close to you, there is free, confidential help available.”

Executive Member for Community Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, Councillor Brian Spurr, said:

“Victims and potential victims seeking help want to be able to do so quickly and discreetly, so I am sure that the new-look website will prove invaluable.

“Taking that first step to escape the cycle of violence can be extremely daunting – but if people are able to do so easily and confidentially, then that can only be a good thing.”
