Manchester City Council’s Environmental Crimes team has prosecuted a clinic for fly posting.

Vivo Clinic Manchester Limited used adverts tied to railings on Portland Street in Manchester city centre to advertise its “freeze your fat” services.

The flyers were reported to Manchester City Council’s Environmental Crimes team in December 2015.

Officers removed the adverts and launched an investigation, with further offences later uncovered on Pottery Lane, Ashton Old Road and Oldham Road.

After failing to send a representative to be interviewed, Vivo Clinic was prosecuted by the council, with the case proved in the company's absence at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

After failing to send a representative to be interviewed, Vivo Clinic was prosecuted by the council, with the case proved in the company's absence at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 27 July 2016.

The company later made an application to have the case re-opened, but then failed to attend court on the date of the hearing.

On Tuesday 30 August 2016, Vivo Clinic Manchester Limited was fined £6,000 for six offences, plus £827.71 in legal costs and a victim surcharge of £100.

After the hearing, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, Councillor Nigel Murphy, said:

“These repeat offenders fly posted across Manchester over a prolonged period, so it’s pleasing that their blatant disregard for the law has been punished with a hefty fine.

“Fly posters cause nuisance and obstruction, which can have serious safety implications on our roads, as well as cluttering up the streets.

“Our Environmental Crimes team will continue to take action against anyone who blights our neighbourhoods – and I urge residents to contact us with any similar incidents, so that we can pursue those responsible.”
