Stockport Council has prosecuted a fly tipper, after he collected waste from members of the public on two separate occasions – and then simply fly tipped it on land at Alfreton Road and Bean Leach Road in Offerton.
Karl Stephen Farrow, 28, of Oxenhurst Green in Offerton was convicted of two counts of fly tipping following a hearing at Stockport Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that, in January 2014, Farrow posted an advertisement on Facebook offering refuse collection “as cheap as a pound a bag”.
Having failed to attend hearings in 2015, Mr Farrow eventually appeared in court in September 2016.
He pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined £800 for the first offence, £400 for the second offence, plus an £80 victim surcharge. Costs of £200 were awarded to Stockport Council.
After sentencing, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Communities, Councillor Sheila Bailey, said:
“Congratulations to the council officers whose actions resulted in this fine being imposed.
“There are many commercial companies who will remove waste and dispose of it legitimately – unfortunately, there is also a minority who will exploit residents trying to do the right thing.
“I hope this fine will demonstrate that this is totally unacceptable – and, where evidence is found, perpetrators will be prosecuted.”
