West Sussex children’s services have received a boost in funding to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Children with SEND can get an Education, Health & Care Plan – in some cases, up to the age of 25.
In West Sussex, the government has awarded services for children with SEND an additional £476,176 in funding.
Changes being made in the care of children with SEND could also mean that families will be given more tailored support by professionals, in order to get the help and assistance they need.
West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Council Richard Burrett, said:
“The government announced the funding to ‘help transform the life chances of children across the country and ensure every child, regardless of the challenges they face, can dream big and fulfil their potential’.
“We cannot echo these sentiments enough.
“By bringing education, health and social care closer together, we can all work towards the same goal of improving the lives of families of children and young people with SEND.
“The latest funding announcement is very welcome news and will enable us to push forward with the changes which will make a difference to people in West Sussex.”
In 2014, West Sussex County Council launched a new website for families whose children have special educational needs and disabilities, in partnership with the West Sussex Parent Carer Forum.
The West Sussex Local Offer website enables families to find the support and services available in their local area.
