A 22-year-old man who stabbed one of his friends to death has pleaded guilty to murder at Carlisle Crown Court.
Calvin Patrickson pleaded guilty to murdering 29-year-old Daniel McMullen at Beech Court in Workington on 7 January 2017.
The incident took place after a night out, when a group of friends returned to Daniel McMullen's house. The court heard that Calvin Patrickson stabbed Mr McMullen numerous times to the legs, arms and chest – two of the stab wounds penetrated his heart and lungs, causing his death.
After the hearing, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West Stuart Pattinson said:
“This is a tragic case of a night out with friends, ending with devastating consequences.
“It was the prosecution case that, following a disagreement, the two men made amends. However, soon afterwards, Calvin Patrickson carried out a pre-meditated attack, by arming himself with a knife from the kitchen, which he used to stab Daniel multiple times.
“Patrickson showed little or no remorse for his actions at the time – the CPS worked closely with the police to build a strong prosecution case, which left him with no other choice than to plead guilty to murder.
“We hope that today's plea offers the family and friends of Daniel McMullen a sense that justice has been served – our thoughts are very much with them at this time.”
