Lincolnshire man fined £1,300 for fly tipping (8 February 2016)

Selby District Council has successfully prosecuted a man for fly tipping as part of the council’s ongoing enforcement action to protect the local environment.
Ryan David Cummings, 23 – whose last known address was at Gainsborough in Lincolnshire – was charged with one offence of causing or permitting controlled waste, namely, household rubbish to be deposited, otherwise than in accordance with an environmental permit contrary to Section 33(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
On Wednesday, 3 February 2016 at Leeds Magistrates’ Court, Cummings pleaded guilty to dumping a large amount of household waste in the parking area at Butt Field Lane in Hensall, on or around 4 December 2014.
He was fined £1,300 and ordered to pay costs of £680 and a surcharge of £180.
Selby District Council says it has a zero tolerance approach to fly tipping –
fly tipping is a criminal offence with maximum penalties of up to £50,000 and/or six months in jail for cases heard in a magistrates’ court.
Crown Courts can impose an unlimited fine and up to five years in jail for fly tipping.
