Jitender is a Director and Joint Head of Department and joined Duncan Lewis in May 2006 in the Child Care team at the Harrow on the Hill office.
Jitender has been specialising in children Law since qualifying as a Solicitor in October 1998. She is a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel - Children Representative and specialises in representation of parents, grandparents, children’s guardians and children in both Public Law cases (including special guardianship orders, care orders, supervision orders and emergency protection orders); and private Law cases involving Residence and contact disputes, specific issues and prohibited steps as well as parental responsibility agreements. In addition, she deals with adoption within the UK and overseas and paternity disputes. She also represents children through their guardian ad litems in private law proceedings. She also advises on domestic violence matters and the obtaining of emergency orders.
Jitender has particular knowledge and experience of social services departmental and internal procedures having worked for a London Borough local authority for over five years.
She is also fluent in the Punjabi language. She has acted for applicants in adoption and special guardianship matters where the Local Authority have funded the applicant's legal fees.
Jitender has written case notes for the BAAF (British Association of Adoption and Fostering) quarterly journal and provides regular pro bono drop in advice sessions / has links with the Asian Women's resource centre and has in the past provided training to prospective local authority adopters and provided training on domestic violence to Police officers. She is a member of the Association of lawyers for children and the Middlesex law society.
Jitender undertakes advocacy and represents at all levels of court, including at contested hearings and fact-finding.
Jitender has chosen to specialise and dedicate her career to children cases. She actively engages in fund raising and held the position of chair of a local school parent association for three years.
