I am a Solicitor in the Child Care department. I have extensive experience in a wide range of family and children matters.

I represent parents and adults in care proceedings, including applications for care, supervision, emergency protection and special guardianship orders. I handle cases relating to neglect, physical and emotional abuse, domestic violence, substance misuse, mental health issues and non-accidental injuries. I have particular expertise in dealing with vulnerable clients, including victims of abuse, and clients with learning difficulties or mental health issues. I also assist on a number of high profile matters including a leading Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Protection Order case and a matter whereby our team represented a diplomat in care proceedings.

In addition to public law children matters, I have experience in representing parents in private children matters such as disputes in relation to contact and residence, as well as complex child abduction matters in the High Court.

Where I can, I undertake my own advocacy in order to provide continuity of representation to my clients. I have experience in representing clients in both the magistrates and the county courts.

I trained as a solicitor at Duncan Lewis and I completed seats in public law children matters, international children law (child abductions and adoptions) and family law. Prior to joining Duncan Lewis Solicitors, I volunteered at a local law centre providing free legal advice and representation to vulnerable members of the community. I am still closely affiliated with the law centre as I am an active member of their management committee.

I am fluent in Greek.

Testimonials

  • "I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for me Stavri. I will forever be grateful to you." - Client, December 2019

  • "Stavri is truly an excellent lawyer to work with. During my time as her client Stavri offered a lot of support and went out of her way and time to make sure my needs were met. If there were any times where I couldn’t travel to her, she would make the effort to travel to me. She would make sure all documents were sent to me on time and I was fully aware and informed of everything that was going on. Stavri also met me at court for moral support numerous times and I was always happy with the barristers she had assigned. Overall, I was extremely happy with the service and feel extremely lucky to have had the chance for Stavri to represent me during such a tough time." - CM (October 2019)

Notable Cases

High Court
  • X (A Child) (Female Genital Mutilation Protection Order : Restrictions on Travel) [2017] EWHC 2898 (Fam) (18 December 2017) - This case concerns ‘X’, a young girl, born in 2016 to ‘M’, her white English mother and ‘F’, her Egyptian father, who currently resides in Egypt. After a Health Visitor (KA) reported M’s concerns about X being at risk of Female Genital Mutilation should she go to Egypt, the Local Authority issued Female Genital Mutilation Protection Order proceedings, pursuant of s2 of the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003, to be held until X turns 16.

  • A Local Authority v X & Ors [2018] EWHC 874 (Fam) (19 April 2018) - Case concerning four children, whose mother worked as a secretary for the X High Commission. The family entered the UK with diplomatic rights and privileges arising from M’s employment. There were two key issues in the case; the first concerned the court’s jurisdiction to make final care orders in respect of the children if those children continued to have diplomatic immunity. The second consisted of classic welfare issues in children public law proceedings which require threshold criteria to be satisfied. Following intensive legal work, the court further concluded it is in the best interests of the children to return to the care of M following a period of rehabilitation managed by the Local Authority.
