The London Assembly Transport Committee is to debate the safety of buses on Thursday (02/01/17), after new figures show that the safety of buses has deteriorated over the last year.
The number of collisions involving buses has increased in recent years, with figures showing 4,297 injuries by the end of the third quarter of 2015-2016, compared with 4,196 over the same period in the year before – an increase of 2.5%.
The London Assembly Transport Committee will discuss why bus drivers are not first-aid trained and why Transport for London (TfL) does not have targets to improve bus safety.
Also on the agenda is a discussion about how TfL is making incident investigations more rigorous and transparent – and how it ensures that all incidents are properly managed, reported and investigated.
The committee will also debate whether bus drivers are comfortable with the incident reporting process.
The meeting will take place from 10am in The Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1) and members of the public are invited to attend or can view the meeting via webcast.
