The Department for Transport (DfT) has said that existing child booster seats and cushions for cars are not affected by new rules, which came into force 9 February 2017.
The DfT says it was notified by the United Nations (UN) that the new rules for manufacturers of backless booster seats applied from February 2017.
The change in the rules means that manufacturers are not allowed to introduce new models of backless booster seats for children shorter than 125cm or weighing less than 22kg.
The change does not affect existing models of seats or cushions and does not mean that they are unsafe or illegal. However, parents are still being encouraged to make sure they know the new regulations
The DfT says that the change to the technical standards means that the range of products available on the market is better suited to younger children.
