The Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) Category will be closing on 29th March 2019 to all new applicants and will be replaced by ‘Start Up’ and ‘Innovator’ categories. Applicants who previously entered under the Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) category will be able to extend their stay under the previous rules until 5th April 2023 and also apply for settlement until 5th April 2025.

There will also be changes to the Tier 1 (Investor) Scheme for all new applicants applying from 29th March 2019. The changes include: applicants being required to establish that they have held the investments funds of £2 million for at least two years (as opposed to the previous 90 days) and investments in UK Government Bonds are no longer being permitted.

Transitional arrangements will continue to be in place for applicants who entered the scheme before 29th March 2019 and the same rules will continue to apply to them for extension applications until 5th April 2023 and until 5th April 2025 for settlement applications.
